My mother used to always joke and say, “When I’m gone you can turn this place into a cat house.“ She was referring to ladies of the evening and I know she was not referring to actual cats, yet here we are.
On Christmas Eve (her birthday was Christmas Day) a gorgeous silky grey cat came up to us outside looking for pet-pets, treats, food, water, all of it. He has odd near yellow eyes and wisps of yellow in his gray coat (my mother, the great granny Ruth’s favorite color was yellow) . Did she send him to us? I get a resounding yes.
He has the mannerisms of a female yet I kept getting from Spirit he was a fixed male . We scanned him and found no chip. We even put him on neighborhood ring notifications to see if anyone would claim him. Crickets other than, “That’s a pretty cat and I’ll take him if no one claims him” comments. My little girlfriend swore he had full oysters in the rear. I kept telling her, “I get that he’s fixed.” but I was tapping into all that is and triangulating it with him so what do I know?
Fast forward to his early morning vet drop off to get checked out, any required shots , a micro chip and to be put under to be neutered. About noon they called her and said, “We put him under, went to shave him and found his tattoo.“ which signified he was already a fixed sport model! Of course now he has his own room upstairs with all the cat accoutrements.
She calls him Smokey Bones, but to me he is the Silver Surfer, a Marvel superhero appearing in American comic books, TV shows, movies and video games. The Silver Surfer is a humanoid alien with metallic skin who can travel through space on a surfboard type craft . His mission is to co-create peace and save the earth. Anywho, it sounds a lot more expansive than “Smokey Bones” at least to me.
