“Today I will move through my day overlooking the mundane tasks and I will not need a charge from anyone or anything but the universe. I will do what needs to be done so that I can get to the good stuff. I will ignore the slow driver, the stale donut, the lack of commitment and communication from others. I will press onward.
Well it’s Thanksgiving week so no matter what you celebrate or where you live in the world – it’s a time now to reflect…what are you thankful for?
This is a true local story from people I know and I have changed only the names! Carl and Sam work together in a local warehouse where they ship various items worldwide. They were trying out a new pallet fork truck , and you can guess what happened next. It turned over onto Sam pinning him to the warehouse floor. Carl looked on in terror at Sam laying on the floor with his head gashed open from his forehead all the way to the back of his head, and yes you could see blood and grey matter.
Miraculously Sam could still speak and knew it was bad. At the very sight of it Carl felt like dry heaving. Carl called for help on his radio and proceeded to garner superhuman strength you only hear about in fables or see in the movies. He managed to lift the 1500 pound vehicle up off of Sam and held it there until paramedics arrived. Sam could not feel his arms or legs and knew it was bad.
The surgeons stabilized him and put him in ICU deciding to put him into a drug induced coma worried he’d actually severed his spinal cord. 𖠣 The night was touch and go as to whether he would be paralyzed for life. We put him in our nightly prayers program that night. When the doctors visited him the next day it was bad, but to the trauma team’s surprise he had not severed his spinal cord.
3 days later Carl visited Sam in the ICU.
Sam said, “I made it through wars only to be taken out by a fork truck? Dude you saved my life!” Both men wept. “If you hadn’t been there I’d have bled out!” Carl said.
Sam’s reply to lighten the mood was, “If you wanted to quit this job you could have, you didn’t have to be so dramatic about it.”
Both men laughed while wiping away tears.
Sam continued, “I’m ok with a wheelchair but hope I can at least move my arms.”
I now believe he’s going to make a complete recovery. It will be a long rehab road, but I believe he will walk again and his mobility will be restored.
No matter your situation, take stock and find the positive things to be thankful for, this time of year and always! Stay out of arguing for your negative and count your blessings.
